St. Peter's on-the-Rock, Stony Lake

St. Peter's Celebrates 100 years on Stony Lake: 1914-2014

St. Peter's on-the-Rock, Stony Lake, celebrated its 100th birthdayduring the summer of 2014 with a wonderful service of joy and thanksgiving held at the church on Sunday July 20, 2014. We were pleased to welcome Archbishop Colin Johnson as our Celebrant. Many of the clergy who have ministered at St. Peter over the years were in attendance and assisted in the service. The homilists were Archbishop Andrew Hutchison, former Primate, and Peterborough's Kathy Hooke. The director of music was Helen Battgenerous in loaning St. Peter's their silver communion vessels plus the beautiful children's cross which was used in the Procession at the service.
Over the years there has been a close connection between St. Peter's and All Saints'. A few examples:

  • The Reverend H. T. Archbold, Geoff Howson's grandfather, was a priest-in-charge in the 1930s,
  • Geoff Howson's parents were married at St. Peter's and Geoff played the organ during the time that Tom Harper was the priest at St. Peter's,
  • Geoff s daughter was christened at St. Peter's,
  • Peter and Nancy Marshall have a cottage and attend St. Peter's during the summer months,
  • Michael Wright and Bill Gray were priests-in-charge for three summers each,
  • Milton Barry and Ron Davidson have been guest celebrants at Thanksgiving services,
  • Alan Wotherspoon is a past warden at St. Peter's, acted as deacon for a number of years and was a member of the Liturgical Committee for the 100th anniversary service,
  • Syd Birrell, our organist and choir director "designate", has participated in services and concerts at St. Peter's along with members of the Peterborough Singers,
  • Giles Bryant was instrumental in assisting St. Peter's in their search for a new organ and has performed as a guest organist at services and concerts at St. Peter's,
  • Helen Batten is the organist and music director at St. Peter's and has particpated in numerous services at All Saints' when Giles has been away,
  • Dave Dobbin and his family have been active members of St. Peter's for many years.
